Terms of Use

Welcome to ShortPool. This page sets out the rules (the "Terms") that form a binding contract between you and us, ShortPool, referred to below as "we" or "us". They apply to our website and our mobile apps, which this document calls the "Service".

Once you access the Service or use it in any way, you have accepted these Terms. Anyone who does not accept them should not use the Service.

1. Who can use the Service

Users must be 13 or older, or meet the minimum age that applies in their country. Your use of the Service confirms that you satisfy this.

2. Looking after your account

  • Keep your login details safe: anything done through your account is your responsibility.
  • Give us accurate information, and update it whenever it changes.
  • If someone gets into your account without your permission, write to [email protected].

3. Rules of use

Do not scrape, reverse engineer or otherwise disrupt the Service; do not get around its security, payment or access controls; and do not use it for anything illegal.

4. Comments and community standards

You can post comments, and you alone answer for what you post. Nothing you post may be:

From inside the app, any user can block other users and flag comments they find objectionable. Abusive behaviour and objectionable content have no place here. Where content or an account breaks these Terms, we may take the content down and suspend or close the account, whether or not we warn you first.

  • unlawful or harmful, or a danger to minors;
  • sexually explicit or obscene, or harassing, hateful or defamatory;
  • spam, a scam or misleading information;
  • an infringement of intellectual property or of other people's rights.

5. Fiction and AI-assisted titles

Everything we publish is short-form fictional entertainment. The plots, characters and events in our titles are invented. They do not state facts, they are not meant to portray real people who could be identified, and you should not rely on anything on the Service as factual reporting.

AI tools are used to produce some titles or to improve them in a material way. The same principle holds for those: they are fiction and are not meant to portray anyone real.

Never use the Service to make or share content that pretends to be someone who really exists or that infringes the rights of others.

6. Who owns what

We own the ShortPool name and logo as well as the website, apps, interface and design. Everything in the catalogue (films, episodes, artwork, subtitles and other material) belongs either to us or to rights holders who have given us permission to distribute it.

Our rights commitment. A title goes on the Service only if we produced it ourselves, or if we hold a licence or written authorisation covering distribution and monetisation in each territory where it is available. For every title we publish, we keep a rights record that names the rights holder, states where the material came from and sets out how far the rights we obtained extend. Without such a record, a title is not published.

What you get is a personal and limited licence, which is non-exclusive and cannot be transferred, allowing you to stream titles for your own non-commercial purposes. Copying, downloading, redistributing, reselling, publicly performing or making derivative works from them is not allowed. Content you post remains yours, and you give us a licence to host and show it on the Service.

7. Reporting copyright infringement

Rights holders who believe their work appears on ShortPool without permission can write to [email protected]. Please include your contact details, what the work is and which rights you hold in it, the title and episode concerned, and the link to the page where it appears.

Every complaint gets reviewed. If it is substantiated, we take the material down or block access to it, and the outcome is logged against the title. Uploaders who infringe repeatedly have their accounts terminated. Whoever made the report is told what we decided.

8. Payments, credits and Plus

Who receives your payment. Online payments are handled by an authorised third-party payment provider. The provider, the payment options and the applicable terms are shown at checkout before you pay. ShortPool does not receive or store your full payment card details. For each such transaction, the merchant of record is the provider named at checkout. It takes care of processing the payment, any sales taxes that apply, invoices related to the payment and some payment-related customer service. Purchases inside the mobile apps go through Apple In-App Purchase or Google Play Billing, and the terms of those stores apply to them.

  • Credits give you a limited licence, which you cannot transfer, to unlock content inside the Service. Credits are not money: they carry no monetary value and cannot be cashed out, withdrawn, transferred or exchanged. Nor are they a deposit, a payment instrument or a stored-value account.
  • Once a payment is confirmed, the credits land in your account straight away, and they stay valid for as long as your account is active.
  • Plus is a renewing subscription that unlocks digital content for whichever billing period you pick: a week, a month or a year. You will see the price and the period before you pay.
  • Unless you cancel, Plus renews on its own each time a billing period ends, at the price that plan has at that moment. Cancelling only stops the renewals that would follow; you keep Plus until the time you have paid for runs out.
  • You can cancel whenever you like, either from ShortPool › Plus or by sending an email to [email protected]. If you subscribed in a mobile app, cancel through the Apple or Google account you used.
  • When a renewal charge fails, we may try it again before the subscription lapses, and Plus may be suspended or come to an end.
  • We can change prices, plans and offers. You will hear from us before a new recurring price takes effect, and it will only apply from the following billing period.
  • For refunds, see the Refund Policy (/refund-policy). Nothing in these Terms limits any statutory right you have to a refund or to withdraw from a purchase.

9. Ending your use of the Service

You are free to stop at any time and to delete your account. We may suspend or end your access for legal or operational reasons, or if you break these Terms.

10. Disclaimer and limits on liability

We provide the Service "as is", with no warranty whatsoever. As far as the law allows, we accept no liability for indirect, incidental or consequential damages that result from your use of it.

11. Applicable law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the place where the operator of ShortPool is established, setting aside conflict-of-laws rules, except where a mandatory law of the place you live applies.

12. Updates and questions

These Terms may change, and we will publish any material change here. Questions can be sent to [email protected].
